Last autumn I was pleased to have the opportunity of travelling to Chester to talk to their local organists’ association about the work of BIOS and, between writing this and its appearance in print, I will have made a similar visit to the Sheffield association of organists’. The hope, and indeed purpose, of these trips is to try to recruit new members. That apart, it is at least an opportunity to tell people about the tangible work that BIOS does in so many areas which do not form part of the remit of other bodies such as the IAO, RCO, RSCM and IBO. That is not in any way intended as a critical remark, rather just a clear statement of the distinctive purposes which underpin the different reasons for which our individual organisations were established and registered as charities…
