Saturday 30th May 2026 – 11.15
This year’s AGM meeting begins at Farm Street Church (The Church of the Immaculate Conception), Mayfair, which houses an organ rebuilt by Henry Willis III in 1926 incorporating pipework by Anneessens and Bishop. The organist at the time was Guy Weitz (1883 – 1970) and the instrument was considered very advanced both tonally and mechanically. Bruce Buchanan will speak about the organ, organ builder and organist, whom he met towards the end of Weitz’s life. James Todd, a post-graduate at the Royal College of Music and former Organ Scholar at Farm Street will play Weitz’s three movement Symphonie no. 1 of 1932, based on plainsong themes. The conference is open to all, though the AGM is for BIOS members only.
A sandwich lunch at the Grosvenor Chapel will be followed by the AGM at 2pm. All members may attend the AGM without payment, but it would be helpful to know in advance if you are coming just for the AGM. The charge of £35 for the conference includes lunch and tea. The AGM will be followed by a lecture and recital (on the 1991 William Drake organ) by Dr David Ponsford on his new edition of the organ music of Louis Couperin, ending about 3.45.
